AHOT specialises in providing comprehensive, detailed functional assessments following an acquired brain injury. We provide both physical and cognitive assessment, addressing how the acquired brain injury has affected these areas and consider how the changes are impacting on an individuals ability to participate in day to day live.

Psychological and behavioural changes:
AHOT has extensive experience working with clients who have experienced psychological and behavioural changes following their acquired brain injury. We recognise the multi-factorial nature of individuals presentations and causes of behaviour changes. We believe in the importance of formulation and the need for rehabilitation that is centred on what is meaningful to the client.
Vocational rehabilitation is the process of supporting an individual return to work following ill-heath. We recognise the importance of returning to work following an injury and how work is often central to our identify and sense of purpose.
At AHOT, we have expertise in supporting clients who have experienced an acquired brain injury return to work. This includes returning to a previous role or locating a new role. We are also experienced in support clients who are not able to return to work and work with them to try developing new roles aligned with their values.
We are experienced in providing comprehensive vocational assessments to identify strengths and areas to develop in rehabilitation. We also work collaboratively with employers and HR departments to supporting graded work returns.
At AHOT, as part of the occupational therapy assessment we consider how any physical changes following a brain injury might effect someones ability to manage meaningful activities. This may include weakness, sensory changes, increased tone or spasticity. We work with our clients to relearn skills or adapt and learn new ways of doing things.

Alex can offer a professional supervision or mentoring packages either to individuals or as part of a group. He has extensive experience working in different rehabilitation settings, of the medico-legal rehabilitation sector and as a clinician working on complex neurorehabilitation cases.
Alex can offer supervision to newly qualified or experienced occupational therapists. In supervision, he can support you to formulate clinical decisions, design interventions and develop your skills in building a therapeutic relationship with your client. He is skilled in utilising motivational interviewing and developing a rapport with complex clients. He is also experienced at working in large interdisciplinary teams and supporting occupational therapists to navigate team dynamics.
